Distributed energy resources (DER) owners, operators and developers and the host sites they serve are facing mounting pressures. These include significant variability in electric costs and revenue generating opportunities, an uncertain economic climate, power disruptions from worsening weather events, and the need to make progress toward net-zero climate policies.
DER projects can overcome these challenges and accelerate the energy transition, but only if they can meet the needs of project off-takers and financiers, while utilizing technologies that unlock their full value. US energy users and DER portfolio owners are turning to optimization solutions that evaluate the variety of site-specific performance data and energy market options to create project proformas that get projects greenlighted. Projects then deliver on those return projections post-commissioning via an hourly scheduling and bidding plan for their participation across both grid services and on-bill savings programs.

This video was recorded during Microgrid 2023: Lights On! The two-day event was designed to bring together industry leaders, visionaries, and those curious about microgrids. Held in May of 2023 in Anaheim, California, the editors at Microgrid Knowledge gathered microgrid leaders for two days of interactive sessions designed to help innovators, developers, utilities, and technology and engineering firms exploring the microgrid space.
The event featured more than 75 microgrid experts across nearly thirty sessions. Panel discussions covered microgrid basics, the latest ground-breaking innovations, microgrid policy, politics and financing, mission critical, community and military microgrids, the role microgrids have in a nationwide EV network, how to incorporate clean fuels in microgrids, and more. The event also included multiple breakout sessions where panelists presented real-world case studies. Each session allowed audience members to ask questions of the panelists.
